Construction

The warehouse and ship (A) were cut from a commercial backdrop with a sharp knife. The image shown at the left was scanned and touched-up as shown at right. The foreground details were removed and the building was renumbered from "1" to "2." It was printed 75% the size of the original to support forced perspective. The renumbering and reduction were repeated to get building #3 (C).  Also note that the ships to the left and right of building #1 (A) are pointed away from the center, giving the impression that the observer is standing in front of building #1.    I searched the Internet for pictures of ships. I selected the three shown at the left. After being cut out, these were located at (E), (F), and (G). The water at (D) was also cut from one of these pictures. When cutting the ships, it is sometimes necessary to delete thin features, such as ropes. Use diluted white glue to paste the cut outs to the backdrop. Spray with clear flat to protect the paper.
Now that the scene is in place, I think I would have done the scene differently if I could do it over. There are too many ships and not enough ocean. Either or both of the ships at (F) or (G) could be replaced with a view of ocean. The distant horizon would be quite realistic.
